The settled happiness and security which we all desire, God withholds from us by the very nature of the world: but joy, pleasure, and merriment, He has scattered broadcast. We are never safe, but we have plenty of fun, and some ecstasy. It is not that hard to see why. The security we crave would teach us to rest our hearts in this world and oppose an obstacle to our return to God: a few moments of happy love, a landscape, a symphony, a merry meeting with our friends, a bathe or a football match, have no such tendency. Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not encourage us to mistake them for home. C.S Lewis.
I love this quote by C.S Lewis from The Problem with Pain. So often we go through life making it our goal to make our path easy and our burdens light. However, that’s not real life. If you have been around for a while you will already know that “there always seems to be something to worry about,” or “life seems to have a way of throwing curveballs our way.” This is a reality of living in a fallen world. This is the reality we must face. Instead of trying to eradicate fear, it’s essential we hold onto our faith and trust in a God who is mighty and powerful and knows us by name.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
As you go through your day, consider how God is looking to draw you close to Him in the midst of fear. Today you can face your fears knowing that God will strengthen you and help you through it.
What are you afraid of? Face it with God today!
