I Quit Ministry

Did I fool you with the title of this post?

I was nearly fooled by a bunch of my volunteer leaders this morning on April fools day. My first email arrived from Trent, and I must admit, he had me for about 20 seconds. Take a look at some of the messages I received this morning:

Phil – so sorry mate – but I must resign from the high school ministry immediately. Andrew (our awesome Middle School Director), told me that he had a spot for me in the middle school and its too great of an opportunity to pass up. Cheers. Trent.

I was going to wait on this, but when I saw that you were going to talk about the spring and summer schedule, I wanted to be fair with you and let you know I am not going to be part of the High school team anymore.

Sorry to let you all know this way, but I have decided to quit High school ministries after our big party in May…

Andrew,  and I sat down in Chicago and he made a compelling argument about middle school ministry. I have been praying about it since then, and I just feel I should go in that direction immediately. I need to step out of high school.

Also, Denise and I were talking, and with our daughters wedding and the hecticness surrounding that, we think it might be best if I step down from teaching.  Interested in your thoughts.

Can we set up a time to talk.  I am having some issues at home that is forcing me to reconsider my commitment in youth a CBC.  I know this is mid year, and unexpected.  Sorry, it can’t be helped.

Phil, effective immediately, I am terminating my position at FUSION! I can no longer work in the existing kitchen conditions! In order to reconsider I would require granite counter tops, a Krups coffee maker and a Slurpee machine! Look forward to hearing from you…

Just thinking that this youth ministry thing is not working out for us, so we QUIT!

I love that I get to do ministry with these people I call friends. They know me well enough and they know my sense of humor. It was a funny day for me today! On a final note, I would LOVE a Slurpee machine for our youth center! Great idea!
